Therapeutic styles we utilize include:

  • Psychodynamic Therapy

Helps individuals gain insight into their inner lives by exploring the way early childhood experiences may shape current behaviors

  • Dialectic Behavioral Therapy

Helps individuals develop coping skills for emotional regulation that can be used in both individual sessions and during times of distress

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Helps individuals identify, examine and change unhelpful or unhealthy thoughts and behaviors that may be negatively impacting their mental health

  • Humanistic Therapy

Rather than relying on diagnosis and interventions, humanistic therapy emphasizes understanding a person's inner experience, feelings, goals, and values in order to empower them to make meaningful life changes

  • Existential Therapy

Focuses on an individual's sense of purpose in life and examines how individuals are affected by their existence in the world, and how they make sense of its meaning

  • Feminist Therapy

Focuses on the challenges that women face as a result of bias, stereotyping, oppression, discrimination, and other factors, and how those stressors can negatively affect their mental health

  • Intersectional Therapy

Helps individuals explore how power dynamics between different identities shape their lives and thoughts and examines the various identities and experiences of an individual in order to better understand their mental health and emotional needs

  • Expressive Arts Therapies

Uses creative arts (such as music, visual art, drama, writing, and dance) to help individuals explore their emotions and work through various life issues

Furry & Feathered Friends

  • Koa

Koa is a big boy with a big heart and a big voice to match! He loves spending time sitting next to his Sanctuary friends at Douglassville. We adopted him in 2018 while visiting the island of Kauai.

  • Dakota

Dakota is Tasha’s sweet and gentle therapy dog who has the cutest wiggly butt and is always happy to greet our clients at both Douglassville and Audubon. She’s also always rocking the cutest bandanas!

  • Therapy Chickens!

Yes, really! Often referred to as “our girls,” they produce the yummiest eggs each year and love getting treated with goodies from our garden when it is in bloom. Ask your therapist about spending some time with them!

  • Vincent (2005-2023)

Vincent was our wisest, most trusted feline confidant at Sanctuary. A genuine friend to everyone who met him, he will be forever missed and remembered with with love and gratitude.
